Victorian changes traffic rules which specifically address the use of mobile phones and visual displays (such as GPS devices) will from September 11, 2009. New rules for cell phone have been modified and allows for navigation (GPS) and audio / music functions of the mobile phone to be used, provided that the mobile phone business in fixed housing attached to the vehicle. Mobile Phones – Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, except to make or receive phone calls or use its audio / music functions Phone: trade in certain housing attached to the vehicle or the driver can be managed, without touching any part of the phone. Use the GPS phone while driving is prohibited, except as provided in the Commercial housing attached to the vehicle. Imaging unit – a driver must not drive a vehicle that has a television receiver or visual display units operating in the event of any part of screen is seen by a driver or is likely to distract another driver. The driver can use the driver aids such as navigation devices, but they must be an integral part of vehicle design, or secured in a trade designed holder that is attached to the vehicle. In summary – Have your mobile phone (GPS), located in the cradle and “fix” from the cradle to the point of your vehicle that does not obscure your vision. Consideration of “Bluetooth” device that allows you to receive and make calls without touching your mobile phone. The investment required for one device, Bluetooth may be the best investment you will make this year.
